Sri Trang Gloves determined to develop global fully sustainable medical gloves supply chain
Sri Trang Gloves (Thailand) PLC.- (STGT) presses ahead with the policy on global standard for manufacturing and green supply chain after receiving a certification by Forest Stewardship Council on forest management (FSC-FM) and chain of custody (FSC-COC) and becoming the world’s first fully integrated FSC-certified natural latex glove manufacturer.
“As part of Sri Trang Group The World‘s Leading Fully Integrated Green Rubber Company, we have always committed to sustainable manufacturing throughout supply chain in a bid to reduce environmental and social impact whereas producing natural latex gloves certified with global standard,” said Vitanath Sincharoenkul, STGT Executive Director.
FSC certification does not come overnight though. STGT Executive Director said it took up to six years for preparation and upscaling production throughout supply chain, starting from rubber forest management, traceable and transparent sourcing and manufacturing process, product research to improving work safety conditions. Such business social compliance standard is widely practiced worldwide particularly in the Europe Union regarded as STGT’s major market.
EU also gives human trafficking and environment issues a major concern. Hence it is important for our corporate to actively implement fair and safe working conditions. Staff and rubber plant partners are always trained on improving rubber plantation and tapping technique as well as housing and waste management to ensure the well-being of all stakeholders. STGT also raises awareness of wildlife and forest conservation. “We’re committed to implementing global standards and green supply chain. So not only our clients will get premium quality latex gloves, our staff will also have good living quality and safe working conditions and high productivity in return,” Mr. Vitanath said.Delivering a ‘Touch of Life’ product concept from Thailand to global marketSTGT’s years of commitment to continuous implementation and practice following FSC-FM and FSC-COC standards of forest management has contributed to high productivity of premium latex fluid supplied to the glove manufacturing process.Rubber plant partners are also required to follow the similar FSC standard of practice. However, they will be able to earn better income from supplying highly qualified latex to production process. Latex fluid will have to go through Sri Trang Gloves ISO 14001 (effective environmental management system) -certified glove manufacturing process with 100% powered by environmental friendly biomass energy.“Traceability can be done throughout our supply chain to ensure that our natural latex gloves are environmentally friendly and of legitimate sources,” he said.STGT currently supplies up to 21 billion pieces per annum of gloves in different categories including latex powdered gloves, latex powder-free examination gloves, nitrile powder-free examination gloves, and sterile powdered and powder-free glove, for pharmaceutical industry and others in over 120 countries.Of its total production capacity, 14 million pieces per month are accounted for fully integrated FSC-certified natural latex supply chain gloves based on the “Touch of Life” product concept,. Mr. Vitanath also sees opportunities and ready for expansion as demand on sustainable disposable gloves, especially in food and services industry such as supermarkets, restaurant, hotels, salons and spas etc, is increasing. Incorporating natural disposable gloves into their supply chains can enhance food safety and hygiene to meet consumers’ need while adding value and sustainability to their products and services.Reseach and development amid disruption Innovation is crucial for all industries in the age of disruption. STGT Executive Director is aware of this challenge and gives priority to product research and development. ‘Zero-Protein Latex’ is the company’s latest innovation. Its natural latex allergy-free qualification can ensure the gloves are safe for all users, giving the company a new opportunity for market expansion in Europe and North America where synthetic gloves made of non-renewable resources are still widely used due to natural latex allergy concerns.“STGT will focus on natural rubber glove manufacturing regarded as renewable resource, from upstream to downstream process. We will continue moving forward to expand our capacity and deliver full supply chain of FSC-certified natural latex gloves based on a ‘Touch of Life’ product concept to consumers worldwide without compromising social and environmental sustainability,” Mr. Vitanath said.
